Ministry update 2025
EVERYTHING WE DO TOGETHER IS MADE POSSIBLE BY YOUR PRAYING, SERVING AND GIVING
THANK YOU
Our vision is to play our part in the evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the church, and the transformation of society. Here’s a short update on what we’ve been able to do this year together as a church, thanks to all your support.
HTB Church
Sunday Services
Our ten in-person Sunday services across our six locations bring together a wonderful mix of ages and demographics that reflect the rich cultural and racial diversity of the city we look to love and serve. Our 11:30AM livestream from HTB Brompton Road has grown into a community, welcoming people from across the country and around the globe as a space for envisioning, celebration, encouragement and connection.
Kids
HTB Kids exists to connect with children and families of HTB Church and beyond to help them know the love of God and have fun at church. HTB Kids runs across eight Sunday services each week, discipling over 300 children. The team also supports our weekly After School Club at HTB Dalgarno Way, as well as hosting weekly Play Cafés for parents and carers with their little ones at three HTB sites.
Youth
HTB Youth are passionate about providing safe spaces where young people can seek Jesus, build community and THRIVE! We run spaces with a variety of activities that cover a range of youths’ passions and dreams. We are also intentional about discipling all ages of youth through spaces such as Friday Squad, Upper Room, PoDs and Alpha Youth. Our monthly Youth All In’s are for all youth in school years 6-13, to worship, meet new people, play games and so much more.
Collective
Collective is our ministry for students, new graduates and young adults. Our mission is to live in the way of Jesus, transforming the city we live in through university campuses and workplaces. We meet every week to build community, equip, and disciple young adults. Our community calls the Onslow Square 4:30 service our home on Sundays, but Collective spans all HTB sites and services. We host Alpha groups at HTB every term with the hope of seeing more students and young adults come to faith.
Prayer
Prayer is the heartbeat of all we do at HTB. We are sensing a greater hunger for God’s presence, particularly at Kingdom Come on Tuesday mornings online and in the evenings each term at Brompton Road. On New Year’s eve at the end of 2024, Kingdom Come saw over 1000 people gather together in-person, and over 700 people joined online. Our prayer campaigns such as ‘Good News for London’ draw in over 200 people praying online daily for the Holy Spirit to be poured out in London!
These daily prayers are led by the congregation, staff and clergy. Some other highlights this year have been engaging with HTB Kids in our prayer campaigns, gathering people from each of our sites to pray online and our weekly Friday night prayer meetings in the Hut at Brompton Road! Wherever we meet, we are seeing a rise in the fervour, consistency, and numbers of those who come to pray.
Groups & Discipleship
At HTB we have 110 Connect Groups meeting online and in-person across London each week during term time, with new groups regularly being formed. These groups provide a space for people to build friendships and deepen their faith. The Discipleship team support Connect Groups with resources, leadership training and pastoral support for group leaders.
Worship
Worship plays a vital role in everything we do at HTB. Not only have we experienced powerful times of worship in our Sunday services, but we are seeing hunger for God’s presence at our Kingdom Come gatherings. Last year HTB Worship led at LC24 alongside worship leaders from across the globe, pulled together HTB Carols at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush and in September, we launched the HTB Worship School, training young, gifted worship leaders to be sent out as Worship Pastors to church plants.
Evangelisation of the Nations
Alpha at HTB
HTB continues to run Alpha every term, in person, at Brompton Road. During 2024 we hosted almost 1300 guests on Alpha at HTB. We also hosted Alpha inside Wormwood Scrubs Prison, with 60 people signing up and 15 men baptised at the end of the course. In 2025 we are launching Alpha at other sites such as Onslow Square, Queen’s Gate and Dalgarno Way, in addition to Brompton Road. This is part of our vision to reach more people in London and create more easy opportunities for people to invite their friends.
Alpha International
Alpha continues to work towards its 2033 vision to make Alpha available to as many people as possible across the world. In 2024, over 2 million people had the opportunity to explore and develop a relationship with Jesus through Alpha across 146 countries worldwide. 2024 saw further investment into product, with the launch of the new Alpha Youth Series in mid-November, and the re-launch of Alpha Film Series pre-production.
Bridge the Gap
Lots of people in London love football, but not everyone loves Jesus - we want to bridge that gap! BTG is a football charity organisation that has a site planted here at HTB, with sessions running on a Thursday evening for the guys, Monday evening for the girls and Tuesday afternoon for the youth! Our vision is to use the vehicle of football to bring people (who maybe wouldn’t call themselves Christian) into Alpha and Church.
Alpha in Prisions Across the Nation
Alpha continues to work towards its 2033 vision to make Alpha available to as many people as possible across the world. In 2023, 1.85 million people had the opportunity to explore and develop a relationship with Jesus through Alpha. Over 74,280 courses ran across 148 countries worldwide. 2023 saw significant investment into product, with production phases progressing for Alpha Youth Series and the new Alpha Film Series.
Leadership Conference
The Leadership Conference is a unique opportunity for leaders in every sphere – across different contexts, traditions, generations, and cultures – to gather as one, encounter Jesus, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. In 2024 almost 4500 leaders from 69 countries and 28 different denominations gathered for 2 days of worship, prayer, talks, interviews, seminars, and networking. There was a diverse array of speakers with some of the highlights being Mark Varughese, Shelbi Shutt, Johannes Hartl, Kate Forbes, and Lecrae. LC25 is taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on 5 and 6 May, 2025.
The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel
Our vision is to enable and inspire people to create a Bible reading habit that will last a lifetime. In 2024 alone, over 1.2 million users across 11 languages connected with The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel, contributing to a remarkable milestone of more than 10 million users since our launch in 2010. This year, we introduced the Verse of the Day feature, and it has already sparked a wave of connection and reflection, with around 400 Bible verses shared every day by our users. Looking ahead, we’re excited to capture and celebrate the transformative impact of Bible reading through a special storytelling campaign. If The Bible with Nicky and Pippa Gumbel has impacted your life in a meaningful way, we would love to hear your story: bible@alpha.org.
Revitalisation of the Church
Focus
Focus24 saw over 8,500 people from across the UK and overseas come together for 4 days of fellowship, teaching, worship and loads of fun. Over 1,600 people attended from HTB, and we have heard so many amazing stories of transformation, healing and changed lives from within our congregation and beyond. Focus25 is taking place at Newark Showground from 24-27 July 2025.
St Mellitus College
At St Paul’s Theological Centre, as part of St Mellitus College (SMC), we see God at work within the college, among our students, and in the hundreds of churches and communities we serve. This year, over 540 students are enrolled in our programmes, including 225 training for ordination, and 109 sent out to serve in curacies across the country.
Academy
The HTB Academy is a year-long programme for young leaders (18-27) to deepen their relationship with Jesus, develop their gifts and become equipped to lead in this emerging cultural context. In 2024 we welcomed 20 new students.
The teaching centres around growing in Christ-like character, theology and critical engagement with our cultural context, and practical ministry skills. It also involves serving practically through mid-week ministry placements.
School of Preaching
The School of Preaching exists to raise up, equip and send out emerging preachers and communicators. We invest in those who want to sharpen their skillset and discover their full speaking potential. A number of key leaders and preachers have come through our cohorts over the years.
Revitalise Trust
HTB is home to the Revitalise Trust with a mission to plant, revitalise and resource churches across the UK and beyond. There are now 184 churches that are part of the HTB Network, with eight new church plants and revitalisations commissioned at Focus 2024, our annual Network church gathering. We are hosting our first ever Summit this January for the Network with around 600 leaders and their teams gathering together for encouragement, equipping and envisioning. We are also continuing to train and equip curates through our Accelerate programme as they prepare to plant or revitalise new churches this year.
Transformation of Society
Shelter
Day & Evening
Our shelter opens up our church to create a warm and inviting place for those facing homelessness and isolation. We provide a warm meal, creative spaces, and chaplaincy support. We also partner with organisations who offer specialist support in relation to debt, housing and health.
Winter
In addition to our regular shelter on Wednesdays, we host an evening meal and overnight sleep in service during the winter months (from November to March), in partnership with a homeless charity called Glass Door. This takes place on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
Displaced:
Community Cafe
The Community Café is a weekly program providing a safe and welcoming space for asylum seekers and refugees in London. We offer a range of services including an evening meal, English lessons, haircuts, and cultural field trips. The initiative aims to foster community, develop skills, and facilitate integration into the UK. The space is often a first touch point for new arrivals and provides a safe and welcoming space for our guests to get plugged in to the community.
Prisons
Alpha in Prisons in London
Our team at HTB partners with local Prison Chaplains to run the Alpha course within prisons. Alpha is a weekly course exploring life and the Christian Faith in an open-minded and friendly environment. Each session includes refreshments, a video or short talk, and a chance to share your thoughts and ask the big questions of life. Last year we hosted Alpha inside Wormwood Scrubs Prison, with 69 people signing up and 16 men baptised at the end of the course.
Caring for Prison Leavers (CFPL)
The CFPL Bridge Programme is a six-month rolling programme which offers a safe space for people leaving prison to find belonging, discipleship and community. CFPL aims to encourage and empower participants to explore and grow in their Christian faith and character and to connect into church communities where they are seen, known and loved. The support also includes weekly fitness sessions, employment support, signposting to other organisations and help with practical needs as they arise.
Women
The Lightwell
A women’s only space where all are welcome, based in the heart of our very own Bloom Café. Our aim is to create a place where women are known, loved and feel like they belong. We have a team offering creative and therapeutic treatments, a non-judgemental listening ear, and prayer. We hope to encourage a safe environment where friendship and community can flourish and grow.
The Shine Course
Shine is a unique personal development and group mentoring tool across nine weeks that focuses on three areas: value, strength, and purpose. Shine is based upon the principle that every life counts, and that each woman has value and should know that both herself and her voice matter.
Eden
Eden is an expanding area of chaplaincy to the strip club industry. We are training team within churches across the UK to connect with their local clubs. Eden offers a non-judgmental listening ear, signposting, sweet treats, and prayer where appropriate.
